2017-2018 Community Garden Chair |
Calling all gardeners and gardener-wannabees! If you like to play in the dirt, this is the committee for you...
Our community garden provides produce to both the school and the local food bank. Each grade level plants vegetables in one of our 8 raised beds and produce bags in the spring and fall and also help tend the gardens during the school year. In the summer time, families adopt the gardens for one week and water and harvest the abundance for the North Coventry Food Bank.
Throughout the year, the teachers have used the gardens for hands-on learning:
- teaching scientific observation skills, qualitative and quantitative analysis
- and area and perimeter calculation
Our garden has even supplied vegetable tastings for Tasty Tuesdays.
Many volunteer opportunities are available for all experience levels, from master gardeners to garden novices and for all time availability — from one class period every now and then, to people who are interested in serving on the committee to help plan the garden activities. If you're interested in helping, please contact Anne Strawbridge.
