is a HUGE success!

To celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day, today your
child experienced a well-planned day of learning at West Vincent. The teachers chose a variety of activities to fit
their particular grade-level requirements from the PA Department of Education Standards on Environment and Ecology.
Some of the lessons the students learned included:
- How to respect the environment
and to be environmental stewards
- Why we should respect the property by participating
in a litter pick up on the school grounds
- Realizing the effect of pollution
on the environment and how to prevent it
- What are the benefits of trees in our
world by participating in a tree planting station and nature trail clearing
- Learning
about how plants grow, their parts, and their benefits by planting flower seeds and annuals
- Identifying birds and other mammals native to our region
- Water
conservation, global warming, and carbon footprints
We actually began
our celebration yesterday with an assembly of student skits, songs, and presentations. My appreciation goes to all of the
teachers and students for their preparations for this great assembly.
Today
we continued with a day full of experiences planned under the leadership of parent volunteers, Beth Intoccia and Ann Dyer.
Beth and Ann scheduled presenters and organized volunteers so that we could maximize the learning opportunities for our students.
Thank you to all parent volunteers, presenters, and staff members for creating and supporting such a special day for our students!

The Outdoor Classroom is planning their 2nd annual bulb
planting project @ WV. Starting today, please send in with your child donations of spring bulbs. Many classes will participate
in planting the bulbs during recess on the school grounds in late Oct and Nov. Let's work together to help beautify
the school while the children get outside and have some Fall Fun! Thank you- Beth Intoccia and Ann Dyer, Co-Chairs
