WVES PTA Communications - June 10, 2018

Keep clipping those box tops!  Thanks to your box top donations, Box Tops for Education donated over $1000 to our school.  We will have a back to school box tops challenge in September, so keep clipping.  Thank you to Cindy Foulds for donating her time to chair West Vincent's Box Tops initiative.

Remember that when you shop on Amazon, you can continue to use the link for our school to help us get a percentage of the sales!  Click to start your shopping session.  This link is always on our homepage at

This summer, why not have your child [looking for something to do?] work on a Reflections Art Project!  They can work on any of the 6 categories (more than 1 is acceptable): Visual Arts (2D or 3D), Photography, Literature, Film Production, Dance Choreography, or Music Composition.  The theme is Heroes Around Me.  If you'd like to review the rules/guidelines, visit our webpage.  If you have any questions, email Lyn Noon.  Entries will be collected in the fall.

Another position that is in need of a new Chairperson is our Restaurant Fundraiser position. Thank you to Lori Sawicki for setting up the Restaurant Nights that we've enjoyed for the past several years. Lori's youngest is moving on to Middle School and we could use someone to take over.  Please contact Cindy Hutcheson if you are interested.

If you would like to have your email address removed from our mailing list, please send me your email address and I'll make sure that it is taken care of.

Please take a moment to read an End of Year Letter from our PTA President, Anne Strawbridge (see other News Item.)

Monday is Day... Have a great summer!

End Of Year Letter From Anne Strawbridge

Sunday, June 10, 2018

I have to begin by saying it has been my privilege to serve over the last two years as President of the West Vincent PTA. In that time, I have repeatedly witnessed what a devoted community can do to expand their children’s environment for success. Dozens of volunteers devoted hundreds of hours to make our PTA events, programs, after school clubs, and activities a huge success.

On behalf of the PTA Executive Board, I want to thank our entire school community for their support of our many programs and events for the students at West Vincent Elementary School. From basic membership to chairing an event or program, from volunteering to simply attending an event, your contributions of time, effort, and/or money validates and broadens your child’s educational experience. Further, your support of the PTA expands every child’s opportunity for growth.

Here are some highlights from 2017-2018:
The PTA funded assemblies which showcased Social Emotional Learning by Thom Stetcher Associates,  STEM by The Franklin Institute and Dialed Action Sports Team’s BMX Bikes, and Music by Steven Courtney. Parent Volunteers put on two successful book fairs that put thousands of dollars of books in the library and classrooms, two fun bingo nights, two fine art nights, multiple spirit nights, the West Vincent’s Got Talent show, our wildly successful All Pro Dads, and a Spring Spectacular featuring live music by Steven Courtney with the return of popular silent auction and Teacher Treasure items.

The PTA introduced a new major fundraiser, the Wildcat Walk-a-thon, where every child participated side by side with the staff.  Not only did the Wildcat Walk-a-thon raise a remarkable amount of money which allows us to expand on current events, programs, and services, it provided an important opportunity for our children to take ownership in the process of supporting their own school. They loved it, and will never forget watching Mr. Smith get drenched with Gatorade!

Parent volunteers helped children publish hundreds of books in the PTA Publishing Center, provided a Student Directory free to every family, and produced an awesome yearbook to record many memorable events.  Our Annual PTA Project helped fund additional I Pad technology into two classrooms. Join our Facebook Page to check out all the fun and memorable moments from this year. To join the PTA (starting July 1 for next year), sign up to volunteer, or for more information on events, please visit or contact a board member.

None of this would have been possible without your membership and support from the staff, teachers, parents, and many volunteers, not to mention the significant contribution and exceptional talents of my fellow board members: Cindy Hutcheson, Jamie Williams, Siobhan Hummel, Katie Felmlee, and Samantha McQuillan.  We will miss Jamie and Samantha, but we welcome Misty Cebry and Alan Scholl to the Executive Board and are grateful to them for volunteering their time to continue to make West Vincent a school of which we are all proud. Special thanks also to Lyn Noon as Communications Chair for keeping us all informed each and every Sunday.

Have a great summer, and remember Mr. Smith’s instructions: “Stay Safe! Have fun! Read! Do math everyday! Above all else, do the right thing!” And speaking of doing the right thing, I encourage you to sign up for something new next year, and you can see for yourself what an amazing school we have the privilege of calling our own.

Anne Strawbridge, President WVES PTA

P.S. Back to School Bash will be here before we know it. See you then!

Congratulations Reflections Winners!

The National PTA Reflections program is PTA’s cornerstone arts program. The Reflections Program has inspired millions of students to reflect on a specific theme and create original artwork.

Each year, students in Grades K through 12 are recognized for bringing the theme to life through dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.  Students are broken down into Grade Divisions: K-2, 3-5, and 6-8.  Judging first occurs at a local level (judging our school only.)  The top 5 move on to the Regional Level for judging.  The top 3 entries that placed in the Regional Level move on to the State Level for judging and the top entry from each state moves on for National judging  Our Region consists of 5 counties: Berks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia.  West Vincent Elementary started out with 14 entries.  All entries moved on for Regional judging; 7 placed at that level and moved on to States.  (None of our West Vincent participants placed at the State level.)

Book Fair Signup

We can't believe that it's that time of the year already. It's Spring Book Fair 2018. This year, we are supporting summer reading with a BOGO event (buy one, get one at equal or lesser value). Please take a moment to read over the materials sent home with your child. One of the features we are offering this year is what is called "E-Wallet". Follow the directions for log-in provided and register your child for electronic payment. Insert their name and teacher, your credit card information along with the pre-determined amount you are allowing. If there is a remainder at the end of their purchase, it is credited back to your card without any processing fee. We hope this makes it easier for parents. If you have any problems or complications, please do not hesitate to contact the book fair chair, Jamie Williams at

Most importantly, in order for our book fairs to be a success, we require the help of our West Vincent parents! If you are interested and able to help, please click the provided sign-up genius link for available openings. Included in the information section is a link for you to view the teacher class sign-ups. PLEASE DO NOT make any adjustments or sign-ups in the teacher's link!!!! It is for VIEWING ONLY.  The teacher link is provided so that you can coordinate your volunteer time with your child's visit to the book fair.

Thank you in advance for all of your help with the book fair and through the year! It is because of involved parents like you programs like this are possible!
