PTA Committees

Volunteers are Always Needed!

WVES PTA has many committees that are responsible for all our activities.  Each committees reports to a designated PTA board member.  The full committee descriptions are detailed below.  If you are interesting in being a committee chairman or just volunteering, there are many opportunities to help throughout the school year so please complete the Volunteer Form below and return it to school.   For specific questions regarding a committee, please scroll to the bottom of the page and contact that committee co-ordinator shown in red.

Committee Chair Job Descriptions

ALL-PRO DADS: Bi-monthly breakfast for kids and their dads held four times each year. During this time, they discuss a wide range of family topics, spend time together, create fun memories, and are equipped with resources to strengthen their relationship.

ART SHOW: Organize volunteers and help mount and hang artwork on the walls for the Fine Arts night, under the guidance of the Art teacher.

AUDITING:  This committee is to be elected by the Executive Board in March to review the financial books at close of fiscal year.  Purpose is to certify the accuracy of the books and records of the organization, and to assure the membership that the association's resources/funds are being managed in a businesslike manner within the regulations established for their use.  One time event in July.

BACK TO SCHOOL BASH: Plan the back to school party for scheduled for the 1st week of September. There is a DJ already reserved.

BAKING FOR PROGRAMS:  If you like to bake but do not want to keep the tempting goodies at home, we need you!  We will have many hospitality needs through the school year with a limited budget to purchase items.   Ongoing through school year.

BINGO NIGHT:  This is a Family Fun Night!  We will gather to eat & play Bingo, and raffle prizes.  Volunteers needed to obtain donated prizes.  The night of the event help is needed to set up, help where needed, and clean up.

BOOK FAIR:  Volunteers are needed to set up, pack up, and work various shifts throughout the week.  This is a great opportunity to be in the school and see the children and teachers.  A volunteer form with specific time slots will be sent home.

CHESS CLUB: Volunteer needed to organize and run the chess club.

COLLECTIONS:  The school receives money and items for turning in Campbell Soup labels, General Mills box tops & empty Ink Cartridges.  Volunteers are needed to collect, submit to the appropriate companies according to their bundling/tabulating requirements.  Ongoing through school year.

COMMUNICATIONS: Our PTA website will be our primary source of information for our parents.  We will have a page on the site that will serve as our newsletter for at-a-glance information updates.  We are still working on exactly how the information will flow but we do want to know who has an interest in helping with this.  Ongoing through the school year

DONUTS FOR DADS: A breakfast for kids and their dads in conjunction with the BOGO book fair.

EARTH DAY:  Our Earth Day celebration is in the Spring. Many volunteers are needed to help with set up, clean up, and many hands on activities that will be planned for the kids throughout the day.  

FOREIGN LANGUAGE: Organize and supervise this wonderful after school program. It runs for 8 weeks in conjunction with High School volunteers and staff.

HOLIDAY DECORATING:  Meet 3 times starting early December.  1st meeting; set up holiday tree, next day; decorate tree, after holidays; take down tree.  If you are "Martha Stewart on a budget", this is the committee for you!

HOLIDAY NIGHT: This family fun event. Some of the activities could include making holiday crafts, ornaments, decorating cookies, taking pictures with friends.

HOSPITALITY:  This committee is responsible for supplying refreshments at various events during the school year.  We have a budget for food items but we also have a Baking for Programs committee who can also supply food items.

MARKET DAY:  Volunteers needed on the pickup days (see calendar) to set up, fill orders, and clean up.  Monthly. Disperse order forms to the students via classroom teachers (family distribution list from the office).

MOVIE NIGHT:  This is a Family Fun night with an age appropriate movie, popcorn, and fun!  Volunteers needed to plan the event and work the night of the event.

MOMS TEA: A tea for kids and their moms in conjunction with the Fall book fair.

OUTDOOR CLASSROOM:  Volunteers needed to work with the staff to care for the garden and expand the program.  Ongoing the school year.

PUBLISHING CENTER:  Turn our students' stories and class projects into keepsakes.  Duties include typing on the computer, use desktop publishing, work with the students, and binding the finished projects.  Ongoing through school year. 

RED RIBBON WEEK: Volunteers needed to help organize and run the week’s events.

REFLECTIONS:  A program sponsored by the National PTA where children can express themselves through several artistic means by entering their work in the Reflections Competition.  Volunteers are needed to provide overall direction for the students, teachers, collect and enter students work to be judged at a local, regional, and national level.  Awards will be presented.  One time event.

RELAY FOR LIFE: Volunteers needed to run a fund raising event in connection to the local relay.

SILENT AUCTION: Volunteers needed to obtain donations for auction items, plan the event, package the items for auction, and oversee the auction in late winter. This is a major fundraiser and a fun adult’s only evening.

SPIRIT WEAR:  Volunteers needed to order and sell spirit wear. 

SPRING FLING:  A Family Fun Night!  With music and activities. A DJ will be on hand playing age appropriate music and teaching the students various dances.  Volunteers needed to plan and coordinate activities, set up, clean up, and to work the planned activities. 

STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCHEON: Volunteers needed to plan luncheon, set up, help where needed, and clean up.  This is very rewarding as the teachers and staff are very appreciative of this event.

STUDENT STORE: Run a store for students. Purchase inventory & staff the store. It would be a great opportunity for students to help run the store as well.

WV’s GOT TALENT: Excellent opportunity to help the kids show off their talents. Help is needed to organize, screen & schedule the event.

YEARBOOK:  Volunteers are needed for each class to collect photos, forward to yearbook chair or upload to yearbook website, arrange and assemble contents of yearbook.  If you want to see your little pumpkin in the yearbook, we need your pictures.
